Peter Murphy
Peter John Murphy (born 11 July 1957) is an English gothic rock vocalist. He was the vocalist of the rock group Bauhaus, and later went on to release a number of solo albums, such as Deep and Love Hysteria. Thin, with prominent cheekbones, a Baritone voice, and a penchant for gloomy poetics, Murphy is often called the "Godfather of Goth."
Murphy was born near Northampton, England, and raised in Wellingborough, England. Bauhaus were one of the establishing acts of the goth movement. Their use of spacey recording effects and theatrical aesthetics was evocative of both early horror films and glam rock; they became an influential group in the early days of gothic rock.
In 1983, Bauhaus appeared during the opening sequences of the horror movie The Hunger, performing one of their most popular songs, "Bela Lugosi's Dead". The camera focused almost exclusively on Murphy during most of the scene, panning only briefly to the stars David Bowie and Catherine Deneuve.

Originally released in 2002, Jesse Malin’s classic solo debut is to be reissued on 26th February as a limited run on double CD and Vinyl with new sleevenotes by The Gaslight Anthem’s Brian Fallon. The second disc adds 11 more tracks originally demoed for the record at Electric Lady studios, only 4 of which made it to the final version – which gives an insight into the quantity and quality of material to hand at the time. Pre-order the reissued LP here.

Says Jesse of the record today: “Ryan Adams inspired me to be fearless and free on my first record as a solo artist. I had no idea I’d still be playing these songs years later and I’m grateful to him for his perfect production, amazing playing and giving me a kickstart down a new road after singing in a punk rock band.
These songs are all very, very personal to me and they took me from my crooked, downtown studio apartment to the rest of the world. We recorded and mixed the record in five days with the wonderful Tom Schick and the controls. I’ve since yet to do a record this fast or this real.”

The sessions also featured Smashing Pumpkins/Hole bass player Melissa Auf der Maur contributing soulful back-up vocals and Joe McGinty (Spacehog, Psychedelic Furs, Angels of Light) on keys. “Malin’s songs are so good they hurt my feelings,” said Adams at the time.

A native New York City singer/songwriter born out of a hard-core punk and rock’n roll background, Jesse Malin has played and toured since the age of 13. He is a street-wise story teller whose characters and slice of life lyrics portray a world of unsung heroes, helpless romantics and rock’n roll survivors. (Comparisons are often made to artists such as Neil Young, Lou Reed, Paul Westerberg, Bruce Springsteen, Joe Strummer, Lenny Bruce and Martin Scorcese). After a 5 year break between records, Jesse returned in 2015 with the double whammy of ‘New York Before The War’ and ‘Outsiders’.
